Kelly Boyett Welch
Licenses & Certifications: NCIDQ (2017), Registered Interior Designer in Florida (2023)
Kelly’s interior design career began in NYC while studying for her Master’s degree in Interior Design from Pratt Institute. Her acceptance into the master’s program was dependent on her artistic portfolio, interior architectural design, construction and drawing skills developed from the accredited Interior Design program at Georgia Southern University where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Interior Design.
She was the Artistic Director and Project Interior Designer/Manager for highly acclaimed interior designer Eric Cohler, leading and managing design projects in residential, high-rise and residential development, and commercial office interiors for notable clientele and corporations east coast to west coast and abroad. Among other high profile clients she was privileged to design for, two of her top favorite families and most memorable projects were designing industry leading Phillip Jeffries CEO’s home and LinkedIn founding member’s homes and corporate offices. As the Artistic Director, her role also assisted in managing Cohler’s company brand, and included designing licensed products such as decorative lighting for Visual Comfort, furniture for Lee Jofa, and wallpaper schematic designs for Cole and Son. Other collective and creative design roles included the design and management of designer showrooms as well as designer showhouses such as Kips Bay, Ronald McDonald House of Long Island, Adamsleigh, and Holiday House. Kelly’s work ethic, dedication, and design aspirations often led her personally assisting Cohler with the design and management of his residences, as well as styling Cohler’s professional photography projects for publications. She also worked side by side with Cohler on his Monacelli Press published monograph, Cohler on Design, 2012. Her design projects have been featured in publications such as Veranda 2009, Traditional Home 2012, Traditional Home (Cover) 2013, NYC&G spread 2013, and Architectural Digest spread 2016.
After 8 years of guardianship under Cohler and his talented team, gaining invaluable artistry, high-end residential and bespoke corporate office design, project management, and leadership experience, Kelly accepted a position at Perkins Eastman as S9 Studio’s Lead and Senior Interior Designer for retail, hospitality, and residential development projects. Honored with a 10 million square foot project portfolio, she led the interior design team and their projects for clients such as Jamestown Properties, Fisher Real Estate Developers, and Brookfield Properties. Equipped with architectural, technical, management, and highly conceptual design skills, she was quickly recognized and promoted to Associate within a year. Her Principals’ support and the architectural team’s trust provided growing confidence in Kelly’s abilities to manage multiple teams, including her own, as well as large-scaled projects that would soon contribute to the success of more projects to come.
Given the opportunity to finally return home to Southeast Coastal GA, Kelly quickly became part of the Catlin Design family, owned by esteemed interior designer Juli Catlin, FASID. Kelly, an established interior designer, began working as a Senior Project Designer at Catlin. With her creative and technical talents, Kelly led and managed award winning residential and commercial projects with Catlin and the talented design team for 10 years. For the past 6 years, Kelly worked alongside her sister Amy Boyett-Whiter, both creating traditional, modern yet classic interiors for the firm with Catlin. Kelly’s talent, invaluable industry and construction knowledge, design resources, and project design implementation capabilities has been of service to her clients for 20+ years. Establishing Wyett Interiors with co-owner, sister, and her life-time mentor Amy Boyett-Whiter, has been Kelly’s biggest achievement yet.
Amy Boyett-Whiter
Licenses & Certifications: NCIDQ (2004), Registered Interior Designer in Florida (2023) and GA (2006)
An emphasis on art, music, and design in Amy’s early education inspired a love for all forms of creative expression and lifelong learning; leading eventually to the pursuit of higher education from universities with respected and accredited interior design and art programs.
A proud Georgia Southern University honors graduate, Amy went straight into graduate studies at Savannah College of Art and Design, earning an MFA in Interior Design. Upon graduating, she formed her first design firm and had the unique opportunity to work with a restauranteur on the design and development of a (then) new restaurant concept called “fusion” dining. She quickly developed a passion for restaurant and hospitality design after realizing that this was an area where all of the creative areas she loved: graphic, interior, industrial design and art all came together to form a complete design concept. Both conceptual and fully realized restaurant projects followed and Amy’s experience allowed her to lead the development team in the research and design of sister restaurants in areas including Fernandina Beach, Jacksonville Beach, and the newly developing Springfield area. These projects also contributed to Amy’s knowledge base and expertise in non-structural interior architecture where she worked to improve the customer experience. In existing buildings she relocated entries, demolished walls to allow in more light and create visibility from the street, and designed unique architectural focal points on ceilings and walls to elevate the interior environment. Additionally, Amy began providing full sets of working drawings and details to contractors and installers and created 3D sketches and models for client presentations.
A variety of unique projects and clients continued, allowing Amy creative freedom to design everything from company logos to large scale laser cut stone intarsia medallions, and they took her as far as Hong Kong to visit artisans and craftsmen in their workshops in hopes of developing conceptual furniture designs for Americans. Many of those early hospitality connections led to working on her clients’ personal vacation homes and condominiums where Amy provided turn-key design, management, renovation, and furniture and accessory procurement services largely throughout Amelia Island.
Continuing on a lifelong learning journey, she discovered her advanced degree also qualified her to teach, and she took a detour from the design profession and happily returned to her alma mater (GSU) to educate young students wanting to be designers. Working as an Assistant Professor in Interior Design, Amy found academic life was vastly different from the profession, but no less rewarding. In that time, she proudly mentored emerging designers, helping them find their own interests and enter the professional world.
Based on her own extensive knowledge, work experience, and industry resources, she was able to expose them to a vast network of vendors and designers, taking them to NY and Las Vegas to participate in professional conferences, tours, and events. She taught studio courses primarily in Hospitality and Commercial Design, technical and presentation courses in AutoCad, Revit, Sketchup, InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop, and courses in Professional Practices. She also found special meaning in research and collaboration with other professors which led to authoring a book chapter, giving presentations at educational conferences and schools, and publishing multiple creative scholarly works inspired by her research, observation, and desire for creative expression.
In her tenure at GSU, Amy was promoted to Associate Professor and became Program Coordinator for the Interior Design Program where she and her incomparable colleagues and students led the Program through a challenging Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) report and on-site visit that resulted in the Program receiving a full 6 year re-accreditation.
After her son was born, Amy continued teaching but had come to realize the importance of being near her family. During this time Kelly Boyett Welch, her sister and future business partner, had accepted a position at Catlin Design, a long established and respected interior design firm under Principal Designer Juli Catlin, FASID. Because of Amy’s talent, industry knowledge, leadership, project management, and highly technical skills, she was recruited for a Senior Project Designer position at Catlin, and was able to return to her childhood home of Southeast Coastal, GA. For 6 years, Amy designed and managed numerous award winning residential and commercial projects throughout Jacksonville and the beaches with Catlin and the other talented design staff. Amy was also a vital asset in the recruitment of designers for Catlin from her network of talented former students and graduates. For the past 6 years, Amy worked alongside her sister Kelly, both creating traditional, modern yet classic interiors for the firm with Catlin. Establishing Wyett Interiors with co-owner, sister, and inspirational design icon, Kelly Boyett Welch, has been Amy’s biggest achievement yet.
